I have decided that I am gonna ask the guy I like to prom. I really am. (If I don't wimp out).
What is the best way to phrase the question, so I don't sound stupid? Does it really matter?

If your going to do it, go with gusto:) I'm happy to see a woman brave enough to do something like this. Give me hope for our soceity.
You might try some humor to ease into the question. Say something like "Before I get up the nerve to ask you to the Prom with me, I have to know something. Who do you like more, the Beatles or Elvis?"
Whatever his response is to that question, act very releived and happy about it. You'll probably find it is easier to ask him. It's a way of dealing with the tension you've got inside and trying to release it.
Good luck!

First of all let me tell you that the world would be such a better place if women had as much guts as you do. I admire the fact that you are going to ask him out. I'd say go for it and don't regret doing so because you have every right to be able to ask someone out without being punished for it. If it were me I'd like a humorous comment before asking or I'd like a really sincere heart to heart conversation with him. If you don't think he feels the same way about you do it anyways!! Trust me even if he says no you'll be happy you asked and knew for sure instead of wondering what could have happened. Just ask him truthfully and he'll respond truthfully. The tension inside you would finally go away either way so you have nothing to lose. I was always on the women's side when it came to whether women can do things just as good as men and you've really proven so. Don't regret it and just go for it.
GOOD LUCK I HOPE HE SAYS YES!!

Your comments have made me definitely want to do this. I am gonna ask him at the first chance I get. (I have no clue when that will be, but I am hopingn soon, so no one else gets to him first).
I'm not completely sure if I could work up the guts to make a humorous comment though. lol I am thinking maybe I'll keep it simple, so I don't end up backing out.
BTW EmotionSickness... I LOVE your username. It is so cool.

I'm honored that you decided to ask because of me lol. And thanks for the comment about my name xD
And Patsfan75BC maybe you should just try asking someone and if you can't get a date just go with a friend and it still would be fun to go by yourself just think of it as a goodbye party since your going to be leaving high school. No reason to be so down

You can always hang out with friends for maybe what could be the last time you see them and get to have a nice talk. Say goodbye to all the friends you want since you maybe not be able to find them on graduation or something

Well I asked him to prom, but he already has a date. Blah.
And I just found out that my second choice has his junior prom the same day, so now he's out of the question.... I'm screwed.

Don't feel so down at least you know now. It'll be alright, my chances got screwed too. The girl wasn;t interested so thats that. Just cheer and and go with a friend or with a group of friends or ask another guy. You can still enjoy prom without a date. I'm really sorry things didn't work out but don't worry too much about it.

I'm glad you at least had the courage to ask. You have more courage than me, and I'm a guy. When I'm about to ask a girl, I get all choked up and change the topic right away. If a girl like you asked me to prom and was from my school, I would be like "HELL YES! OF COURSE I'LL GO WITH YOU!"
