generic opening lines

Sometimes, you know exactly what to say to someone, usually you don't. I know every situation is different, but there are a lot that are the same.
You see someone you like in a bar, in a store...wherever, but there is nothing coming to mind.
What are some things that you can say to get things going other than 'hi...and introducing yourself. If you say hi and introduce yourself, that is fine...but then what the heck do you say?

This can be difficult.

I always say if you are truly stuck, go for a compliment. Like "I think that sweater goes really nice with your eyes." Pick a feature you think is nice..I mean there must have been some reason why you picked her out of a crowd...women want to know what that is.

I know it sounds corney, but what woman doesn't like a compliment?
