why do we say eg.its 5 o'clock or 3.30 o'clock,where did the o'clock come from? as we dont say eg.im watching channel 5 o'tv. do you know what i mean? or have i lost it again?
anyway hope you can help. iain o'bloke:confused:

yeh, you are right. I don't mind people go around saying
6 o'kate or 5.30 o'kate, etc. :lol:

The o'clock suffix is actually a shortening of the phrase 'of the clock' -- in old times, people would ask what time it was, and people would say "It's four hours of the clock in the afternoon." I.e., 4 pm. So it came to be "Four of the clock," then "Four o'clock."
