There's no reason to feel unnecessary embarassment or offense. Why put something there that's not? A turn-down is just that--they've turned your offer down. Would you be offended or embarassed if you offered someone a piece of gum, but they said no, they don't like gum? Same deal here, except you're offering yourself. And I'll bet the gum doesn't feel offended either.

If you have to know why you were turned down, though, be prepared for the person to be blatantly honest, and to hear some possibly-objectional material. Some people are good like that.
