This sounds a lot like the problems my sister has been having. She had a boyfriend who had to move across the country, to the opposite coast. Needless to say, she wasn't very happy about it, but she still planned to make it work. Unfortunately, the guy turned into a real rat bastard, never ever contacted her, and just being a dick in general. So she was spared the agony of finding this out later. This was good.

However, in the interim she has found another boyfriend, and he eventually had to move, basically to the same area as the previous bf. However, this one's doing good, contacting her whenever possible, making sure the relationship stays alive, and working out how the two of them can get back together (i.e. get him back here to this region of the country) so they can pick up right where they left off. This is also good.

Some distance can help you two figure out your real feelings for eachother, and reveal the other's feelings more clearly. I say stick it out if you're willing to suffer his absence for those two years, but if it's too much for you, just break it up. You can always pick it back up if/when you two become local again.

Occasional visits (spring break, xmas, etc) can help sustain the relationship too. But that's up to you guys; sometimes it can be hard to arrange. Good luck!
