This is what the wooing process is all about. It's getting to know that person to a level of trust that you know that they won't betray you and break your heart or what have you. That way you minimize the risk and maximize the positive outcome.

And if you're thinking at all about pain+humiliation, then you either need to spend more time with that person, or you need to find someone else, imho. :dodgy:
