This is a tribute to my senior year of football.
The seconds tick away
The final buzzer sounds
The hero walks away
From hallowed gridiron grounds
And as the team walks off
His crying heart does plead
Just one more chance to run
Another chance to bleed
The helmets shine so brightly
The cold air is so right
He knows he'll never play again
On such a perfect night
He does not feel the bruises
For him there is no pain
Except the aching agony
He'll never play on his home field again
A hundred grueling practices
A thousand wind sprints run
It all seemed so simple then
Back when he'd just begun
Fifty other faces
Had watched his work and strain
Fifty other hearts and minds
All shared the losses pain
And with those fifty souls
He walks off at the end
One word can sum it up now
That word is friend
The seconds tick away
The final buzzer sounds
The hero walks away
From hallowed gridiron grounds
And as the team walks off
His crying heart does plead
Just one more chance to run
Another chance to bleed
