View Full Version : Waiting Days

Waiting days,
parched & hungry
border town under blistering sky
bakes granite steps
& snake-skin ointments

Alzheimers dog forgot his bark
lost horizons wander under dark blue nights
& grimy fish-tales smokey havens
disapear
in streets of frightened thirst
with guns concealed under blankets
Sweltering cigar shops swagger
leaning streetlights
trying so hard to stand they nearly fall
hinged by oxide to coroding doors
are signs
displaying crooked shanks like letters scrawled
mesmerising passers by
& bottles filled with kisses sold
by illegal slaves
busting open crates of contraband
& hawking pretty flesh
on jaded concrete steps
Whisper lips of cracks
and say your purpose quickly
desire leads you here
& starves you
fills you
wastes you
loves you
Empty light shines gutted by
all memories and hope
long people stretch sanguine shadows
'cross the narrow street and wrench
the twisted hearts of lonely lives
from death itself
& holiness obeys

Car wrecks rust & insects chirp
attaining religious significance
while waiting
blazing sun & skinny mirages
with ragged shirts
and legged bows
strike up broken conversations
as waiting days they come & go.

I thoroughly enjoy your poetry Sigh. The emotions they provoke and the range and depth of experience they depict are utterly amazing. You are truly a gifted writer. I eagerly await more.

Celeste,
Thankyou!
There can be no better compliment for a poet than to be acknowledged for provoking emotion, and every acknowlegement re-inforces the drive to dig deep and scour the phychic land-scape for more truth. When I think of Florida, I think of swamps and Alligators (the only American city I've set foot in is the City of Angels), but obviously there are a few sparkling jewels there too:)
Thanks.
