Rain & sunlight lock horns
collide, forging rainbows

A small coffee shop,
a tiny three walled hole
with a cramped table
where I sit,

watching the street steam
under a hot sun
the smell of raw sewage in the gutters
blended with coffee, spice and smoke
a pungent fist to punch the nerves awake

dogs bark nearby, tearing rubbish apart
they're chased away by shop-keepers

an endless procession of souls
cajoled & jostled by currents
of hope and duty

My newspaper goes unread
a notebook unscribed
only the coffee recedes, inexorably
like a hairline or a tide, passing time

I open every pore to this place
soaking up the vibrant flood of life
until I'm no longer here
dissolved in the scene
invisible
disappeared & unimportant

gobbling the steady stream of experiences
which the universe feeds her chicks
hungry mouthed in the planetary nest

for a brief moment
the holy function of the cosmos is revealed
her secrets familiar & emanating love

A moment of incandescent awareness
when every person is beautiful
life loves them!
the galaxies hum with them!

duality is vanquished
what's good is good
what's bad is good
in the vast turn of the great wheel

and I wish I could live these heightened moments continuously
but a "wish" and an "I" jolt me back
to an empty coffee cup and scrawled pages of a notebook.

Your poems always give me a feeling of watching a movie. I can nearly see newspaper flying in the wind, dust hovering above the ground and warm smoke above the cup of coffee.

Sigh is a master of poetic imagery.

You guys!!!
:)
Seriously, thanks. I worked on this one a lot more than the usuall slap-dash. So it's nice to know the visual cues worked :)
Thats the fun thing about poetry...it's like passing...you know those corny glass christmas scenes and you turn them upside down and the snow falls?
...it's like passing a little scene to someone and letting them step inside. Thats communication.
I sound like a hippy.
Better go.
